What is Visual Liturgy?

An introduction

Visual Liturgy is a powerful software package to help you plan services and acts of worship by using a computer. Visual Liturgy is now in its fourth version - Visual Liturgy 4.0 for Common Worship - and includes includes all of the Common Worship material published by the Church of England in November 2000.

The Methodist Worship Book for Visual Liturgy has been produced and you can also buy a number of add-on modules to provide extra hymns, worship songs and seasonal material.

Why might you need Visual Liturgy?

Visual Liturgy helps with many of the common tasks involved in preparing worship. For example, you can quickly find out what the coming Sunday is in the church year and view the readings (with full text available in many cases), collect, proper preface, post-communion prayer and more.

Visual Liturgy services are based on templates, which are service frameworks that have intelligent links to the lectionary. These can be customized, so that you can easily create a service template for your own church that will be automatically up-to-date every time you use it.

There is a large hymn and song database of over 5,000 songs to choose from. Full text is available where copyright allows.

Visual Liturgy integrates with the Microsoft® Windows® operating system clipboard so that you can transfer the text of a complete service to a word processor or desktop publishing application to help you produce a printed service sheet.

Assisting creativity

Visual Liturgy is more than just a convenience. It is a service book that takes full advantage of the benefits of electronic publishing. You can become far more creative in your use of the materials available by using Visual Liturgy. You can select from seasonal material, choose alternate texts; link automatically to Bible readings; search for the sources of hymns; create instant overhead transparencies or even add your own prayers.
