Browsing for content

This demonstration is taken from Visual Liturgy 4.0 for Common Worship. In order to provide users with as much assistance as possible in finding and choosing texts for their services, Visual Liturgy 4.0 for Common Worship includes a brand new search facility called the Browser.

The Browser

Browser - click to enlargeThe Browser can be accessed at any time and from anywhere in Visual Liturgy by clicking on the Browse icon on the toolbar. This opens a dialogue box, which is divided into three sections: the Find box, the Results box, and the Preview box.

Users can then type into the Find box the words or phrases they want to find. Unlike past versions of Visual Liturgy, users no longer have to specify the type of item- Bible reference, song, etc. - that they're looking for. Instead VL4 does the thinking itself.

Once the text is entered in the Find box and the user clicks Go, VL4 with search its database and the findings will pop up in the Results box. The Results box will indicate what type of item has been found and also provides a brief summary to help distinguish the results from one another. The results are also marked with icons to help identify whether they are Bible readings, Hymns or songs, Psalms, etc.

The Browser also provides previews of each result - something not available in previous versions of Visual Liturgy. When a result is clicked on and highlighted, the Preview box allows users to view the text of the item in full. If required, the user can even copy the text of the item from here and paste it into another software package.
