Software demo

Choosing hymns and songs

The following sequence shows how Visual Liturgy helps you plan and prepare services. This demonstration is taken from Visual Liturgy 3.0 for Common Worship.

Managing hymns and songs

Visual Liturgy has a full range of features for managing hymns and songs. You can:

  • Add, edit or amend hymn/song texts.
  • Search by first line, title, author or source.
  • You can edit the source index to add your own custom-made songbook index.
  • Consult, edit and customize thematic and biblical indexes.
  • Record your usage of musical items and produce reports.
  • Make your own notes on any hymn or song.
  • See which tunes are suggested, search for tunes that match the metre and even play the tune where MIDI files are available.

Choosing a new item

As part of your service, you are likely to want to choose some hymns or worship songs. By opting to choose a new item, you can search using the screen shown above.

In the example shown, we have searched for items on the theme of Advent Hope. You can search by book, first line, title, author, or (for hymns where the full text is stored) by any word or phrase.

Visual Liturgy has over 1,000 hymns indexed, and where possible the full text is included for items that are out of copyright.

Why are some hymns in bold? These are hymns or songs which Visual Liturgy detects as being in the books you use in your church. You can configure Visual Liturgy to tell the software which books you use.

To include a hymn in your service, you use drag-and-drop to place the selected hymn into the service list.

Note
For even more hymn indexes and full texts, you may like to consider purchasing the add-on module Hymns and Worship Songs of the Canterbury Press.
