Frequently asked questions

How can I install Visual Liturgy on a network?

The best way to install Visual Liturgy on to a network is as follows:

  1. Install Visual Liturgy on to the main network hard drive that you want to access it from.
  2. On each slave/client machine, use Microsoft® Windows® Explorer to map the networked drive where Visual Liturgy is installed so that you can access it via a drive letter, eg. M:\
  3. Install Visual Liturgy onto each slave/client system from the CD. Go through the full installation process. When you are installing it on a slave system, it is best to install it to a local directory (so that the executable runs off the local hard drive), as this will yield quicker performance. However, you can install it to the networked drive if you want.
  4. Ensure that Configure for shared use on a network is checked in Edit – Preferences - General, on all installations of Visual Liturgy.
  5. Finally, on each of the slave systems, run Visual Liturgy and use the File - Change Database command to set Visual Liturgy to access the data from the shared directory (the Data directory is stored within the main Visual Liturgy directory). Once this is set up and working, you can then delete the local Visual Liturgy Data directory from each of the slave systems.

Licensing implications

The licence you get when you purchase Visual Liturgy 3.0 allows you to install to one computer only.

In some circumstances we allow this to extend to installation on to two computers belonging to the registered user of Visual Liturgy, on condition that Visual Liturgy will never be in use on both computers at the same time. An example of acceptable use under these terms would be if you are the sole user of Visual Liturgy in your parish and have an office computer you use when in the parish, and a laptop you use when away on conferences, etc. Under these circumstances we would not require you to purchase an additional user licence.

For use over a network, however, you should purchase an additional licence for each client/slave system. Licences can be purchased from Church House Bookshop on 020 7898 1300 / www.chbookshop.co.uk . They cost £20.00 each and come with a manual and a registration number for helpline access, but no CD (you use the main user’s CD for installation purposes).

You may run up to three additional user licences in your church/parish/circuit/etc. for each packaged product purchased. To run more installations than that you will need to purchase an additional CD-ROM in order to obtain a further full, main user licence.

If you are running over a network, rather than on separate machines, and you have more than three slave machines that you want to be able to access Visual Liturgy, please contact the Visual Liturgy helpline on 020 7898 1451 as we may be able to negotiate different terms for this particular type of usage.

If you already have additional user licences purchased for use with VL 2.0 or VL 1.x, then you do not need a new licence just to upgrade the client systems. The additional user licence from your previous version of Visual Liturgy covers you for the upgrade to Visual Liturgy 3.0.

For further information about additional user licences, see the FAQ on additional user licences.
