Installing Visual Liturgy onto a new computer
Many users have been with Visual Liturgy since the beginning and have
a nice stack of floppy disks and CD's in their collection! Unsurprisingly, many
users are now purchasing new computers and have asked as to which disks are still
needed to complete a full installation on a new machine. Details are provided
below:
Please ensure that any anti-virus software on
your system is disabled while you carry out any of the procedures listed below.
Installing from a CD-Rom "full" version of Visual Liturgy
- Visual Liturgy 4.0 for Common Worship, The Methodist Worship Book for Visual
Liturgy and Visual Liturgy 2.0 were all released on CD-Rom. If you have a full
version of any of these products, your job is very straightforward.
- Place the CD-ROM of your full version into your CD-ROM drive and run SETUP.
You may find that the setup routine begins automatically.
- Allow the installation to complete and you should have Visual Liturgy
ready for work.
- If you have any upgrades for Visual Liturgy - for example, you may
have version 3.0 as a full version and version 4.0 as an upgrade - then you will
need to install your upgrade CD-ROM next.
- If you have the Seasonal Module, install this by running SETUP
on the Seasonal Module floppy disk. Please note this can only be installed on
version 3.0 or previous. It is not directly compatible with version 4.0.
Installing from a floppy disk "full" version of Visual Liturgy
- Early versions of Visual Liturgy were released on floppy disk. If
your full version of Visual Liturgy (i.e. your first
version) is on floppy disk but you also have later versions on CD-ROM, follow
these instructions:
- Place the first disk of your first version into the floppy disk drive.
- Place your most recent upgrade version of the software on CD-ROM into your
computer. If the setup routine begins automatically, allow it to continue. If
it doesn't start automatically, run SETUP from the CD-ROM and
NOT from the floppy disk.
- The upgrade CD-ROM will check for an existing full installation on your computer
and won't find one. At that point, it will check your floppy disk drive, read
a file from the first disk of your first version and return to the CD-ROM to complete
the installation.
- Effectively, you will have short-circuited the installation process to start
at the end rather than the beginning with your most recent version of the software.
Quicker by far!
Installing the Seasonal Module with version 3.0
Please note that if you want to install the Seasonal Module, you will still
need to do that after your version 3.0 of Visual Liturgy has finished
installing.
If you have installed Visual Liturgy 3.0 for Common Worship, you will
need to add these extra steps to the process. The reason is that the Seasonal
Module makes use of some the Alternative Service Book set-up, but you won't get
that ASB material straight from the Common Worship version because it
is not part of the default setup routine. The ASB has to be re-installed before
the Seasonal Module can be imported.
- Install Visual Liturgy 3.0 according to the instructions on the leaflet.
Make sure that any anti-virus software on your system is disabled while you do
so.
- Making sure that VL is not running, run the VL 3.0 CD again.
You will see a message saying "Visual Liturgy is already installed"
and offering you a number of options.
- Choose the option to "Import the Alternative Service Book 1980"
and follow the onscreen instructions, choosing OK when it shows you the module
notes.
- Once the module has fully imported, again check that VL is not running,
and then install the Seasonal Module by running the file "setup.exe"
from the Seasonal Module floppy disk.
- Everything is now installed. When you run Visual Liturgy 3.0, make
sure that you do not choose to remove ASB if prompted!
