Upgrading from Visual Liturgy 3.0 to Visual Liturgy 4.0 for Common Worship

Since version 3.0 and version 4.0 are so radically different, the upgrade process for version 4.0 is a little different to previous versions of the software.

What happens first?

When you install your version 4.0 upgrade, you will find that you now have two installations of Visual Liturgy side by side. The upgrade process does not automatically over-write your previous version.

What do I do with version 3.0?

It depends whether you have customized your old version at all. Depending on whether you have added new texts or edited texts, perhaps to provide hymn words to hymns, or if you have created your own service templates, and depending on whether you want to bring those into version 4.0, you may need to do different things.

I haven't done any customization

If you do not want to bring any customized work into version 4.0, you don't need your copy of version 3.0 since any texts and service templates in version 3.0 can be also be found in version 4.0. You can either choose to keep your old version alongside the new one or you can choose to uninstall your old version.

1. To uninstall an old version of Visual Liturgy, go to Start and choose Settings.
2. From the Settings menu, open the Control Panel and then choose to Add/Remove Programs.
3. Find your old version of Visual Liturgy and highlight it before clicking the Add/Remove button.

I have done some customization

If you do want to bring customized work into version 4.0, you will need to carry out an Import Module process. Once that process is complete, you can either choose to keep your old version alongside the new one or you can choose to uninstall your old version (see above).

To carry out an Import Module process:

1. Open Visual Liturgy 4.0 for Common Worship and go to File then Import module.
2. Choose to Import a VL3 database and click Browse to find your old version's installation.
3. Navigate to the data folder of old installation and choose the Items.dbf file within that folder.
4. Click OK to begin the Import process.

Allow the Import Module process to complete fully before attempting to continue using Visual Liturgy. Once the process is complete, shut down and re-open Visual Liturgy 4.0. Your material should now be fully imported.

Important update: Please note

The Import Module process is currently not working with version 2.0 or earlier versions of the software. In order to carry out the import while a fix is being worked on, please contact Church House Publishing for help.
