Searching by Source in Visual Liturgy 4.0 for Common Worship

If you are specifically looking for a particular item, for example a hymn or song, you can limit your search to only look for particular types of item. In order to do this, you can use a prefix to your search text.

For example, typing "m.O Jesus" into the Browser will only search musical items (such as a hymn or psalm) for the phrase "O Jesus". The most common prefixes are listed on page 67 of the User manual.

A particularly useful prefix is the ability to search by Source (prefix is sc.). If you specify a number, the Browser will search for that particular hymn number in the relevant source.

For example - you can type in sc.htc 100
which will find hymn 100 in Hymns for Today's Church.

If you don't specify a hymn number (for example - sc.htc), the Browser lists every hymn in the database from that particular source.

Please note:

The source can either be the abbreviation as above, or the full name. However, the full name can be difficult to guess since they typically include elements like "2nd Edition 1982". If you need to look up the abbreviation, follow these steps:

  1. Click on Edit - Preferences and choose the Sources tab in the resulting dialogue .
  2. Click on Master List.
  3. Highlight the source that you want to look up and click on Edit source.
  4. The resulting dialogue will show you the abbreviation for that source.
