Gill Sans fonts and Lotus SmartSuite
When Visual Liturgy 4.0 for Common Worship installs, it adds
a Gill Sans font library to your machine which has been licensed from
Agfa-Monotype. If you use Lotus SmartSuite and have variant Gill Sans
font faces installed with the Lotus software, you may encounter conflicts
between the old and the new versions of Gill Sans.
This is a known issue with Lotus that can be fixed. Follow the instructions
below to fix the problem.
- Open up the Control Panel, and double click on Fonts.
- Delete all the instances of Gill Sans MT. Then delete
all the other Gill Sans fonts too. If they allow you to delete them,
great. They may however return an error message saying Gill Sans could
not be deleted.
- If that happens, remain in the Fonts window and go to File
- Install New Font. With the SmartSuite CD in the drive, navigate
to the Lotus\Win\Fonts folder. Select all the Gill Sans fonts for installation.
They will install albeit with a couple of warnings about fonts already
installed.
- Restart your machine and see if SmartSuite is now working properly.
- The last step is to edit VL4 so that it uses your SmartSuite Gill
Sans and not the ones provided on the VL4 CD.
- First, open up Notepad. Click on START
> PROGRAM FILES > ACCESSORIES
to find Notepad if you are unsure where to find it.
- Then navigate to the folder "stylesheets" in your VL installation
- usually
c:\program files\visual liturgy 4\stylesheets and open each of the stylesheets
in turn.
- In the first line of the document, the body tag will list "Gill
Sans MT" as your preferred font. Rename it according to the name
of the Gill Sans font in SmartSuite and save each stylesheet.
- The final step is then to adjust the properties for your VL shortcut
on your desktop. Right click on the desktop icon and choose PROPERTIES.
Then change the target file to c:\program files\visual liturgy 4\vl4.exe.
- Open up VL and check that it all looks and works okay.
It is a bit tricky to resolve this issue but we haven't been able to
resolve the conflict so it is a matter of uninstalling, reinstalling and
then adjusting VL so that it doesn't need the Gill Sans MT fonts present.
