Frequently asked questions

New VL subscription plans

When will the subscription system be introduced?

The current schedule anticipates a release date of September 2006. Obviously software release dates can be fluid depending on the level of bug-fixing that is required. Exact dates will be confirmed closer to publication.

How much will it cost?

For a twelve month subscription, providing access to all updates as well as technical support, the price will be £52 a year – the equivalent of £1 a week.

How will I know if I’m paying for things that I will actually want?

A list of the major updates in each subscription year will be published prior to the launch so that you will know what you can expect for your money.

I only bought Visual Liturgy recently, will I have to pay again?

Unfortunately, the simple answer is yes – you will need to subscribe in order to access new material and technical support, even if you only recently purchased Visual Liturgy. Part of the reason that we are announcing our plans so far in advance is so that everyone has plenty of time to hear the news. Special consideration will be given to users who buy copies of Visual Liturgy 4.0 from January 2006 onwards. Their first year’s subscription will be provided without further charge.

If I’m a new user paying £125 for a new copy, will I also have to subscribe for £52?

New customers who buy the full version of Visual Liturgy for £125 will have their first year’s subscription included free of charge. In future years, they will need to renew their subscription to continue receiving updates and support.

Will my copy of Visual Liturgy continue to work even if I don’t subscribe?

Yes! Your copy of VL will continue to work and will not be affected by not subscribing. However, as a non-subscriber, you will not be able to access future new content such as Daily Prayer, Times and Seasons and the Initiation Services. You will also not receive future software updates or have access to technical support.

What will happen to additional user licences?

Additional user licences will continue to be valid although we are anticipating some revisions to the current system. Those revisions are still being confirmed but we plan to remove the current cap of three extra licences to help larger teams use Visual Liturgy. More information will be released in due course.

Does it matter that I upgraded to Visual Liturgy 4.0 from a previous version?

No, whether your copy of Visual Liturgy 4.0 is an upgrade or a full version will make no difference to your subscription.

Can I subscribe to Visual Liturgy 4.0 for Common Worship if I haven’t got Visual Liturgy 4.0 but still use an older version of Visual Liturgy (such as 3.0 or earlier)?

Yes, you can. The subscription won’t work directly with version 3.0 (or earlier versions) but you can upgrade to version 4.0 and then purchase the subscription. An offer will be available to upgrade to version 4.0 early in 2006 which will include your first year’s subscription as part of the price.

I don’t have the Internet on my computer. Can I subscribe?

Yes, you can. Precise details of how it will work for ‘offline’ subscription is still being finalized but we will be providing an option to receive CD-ROM updates instead of downloading them from the Internet.

How can I contact you to let you know my concerns?

We know this will be a big change and while we have checked our plans with users already, we would like to hear from you with your specific questions, concerns or feedback. Please email your thoughts to visual.liturgy@c-of-e.org.uk or use the discussion forums at www.vislit.com. We will endeavour to provide you with answers to all your questions and concerns.
